John F. Sninsky

John F. Sninsky was the Vice President of the Schuylkill Transportation System (STS).  It was reported by the Pottsville Republican that John “had done more for public transportation in Schuylkill County than anyone since the railroad first came through the Schuylkill Water Gap at Port Clinton.” John started his career at STS in 1982.  As Executive Director, John was instrumental in obtaining the grants and coordination in the design and construction of the existing STS facility located in the St. Clair Industrial Park. John was a visionary and under his guidance and leadership STS became widely admired and respected throughout the state as an organization passionately devoted to rural-regional public transit and all its riders. John also had a steadfast commitment toward innovative and dependable services to people with disabilities.  Shortly after learning of the announcement that the city of Pottsville received a grant to re-establish rail service within the city, John envisioned a greater plan and gathered together Terry P. Reiley and Levkulic Associates to present and layout his dream for a county intermodal center.

John passed away from cancer at the age of 53 on September 20, 2005.  At the time of John’s passing, the design of the new intermodal station had begun and was in its infant stages.

Thank you John for your vision, dedication and passion.  Your life has truly made a difference for all residents in our community.

Quote from a 2004 speech that John gave:   “our journey to a promising new era in public transportation” …….John F. Sninsky
